Roman Gemerals : Research

Metropolitan Museum Of Art(http://www.metmuseum.org/) is one of the greatest resource for the inspirations in the New York City. The museum has not only collections of priceless treasures from the past but also libraries with numbers of books.

So I went to the Met Museum for the research. The museum has a large collection of Greek and Roman arts such as statues, paintings, pottery, etc.

In fact, the museum's Greco-Roman collection tends to focused on "art" rather than military supplies like armors and weapons. There are hundreds of Greek statues in beautiful drapes, but only few munitions including the Bronze chariot from the Archaic period.

Where should I go when I do not have enough inspiration from the museum collection? Museum library. Met has several libraries and study centers including the Nolen Library. And these libraries have great books that talk about the subject in professional way. I was lucky enough to find awesome books about Roman costumes in the Nolen Library.

The image above is from one of the books that I found. This image shows the interesting part of this concept well. It is a very masculine garment. This armor was worn by male warriors for the battle. It shows muscular line of the warrior. But same time, it has feminine quality in it. For instant, bottom of the armor is a skirt shape. The key of this inspiration would be digging these feminine elements from the most masculine garment and develop it into a women's wear.
